The Green Cymru Challenge Fund is a partnership between Ffilm Cymru Wales and Clwstwr. The two organisations are looking at creative ways to cultivate an environmentally friendly and sustainable sector for Wales. The partnership will develop new ways of working in the film and TV industry, for instance. The Fund is aiming to get the sector to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, thus making the industry in Wales greener in the process.

The multidisciplinary innovation fund will look to find solutions to key environmental challenges within the film industry in Wales.

The new Fund encourages organisations to put forward ideas that help the Welsh film industry to make greener choices. It has been created as an open call for research and development funding aimed at developing new products and/or services to make the film and TV industry environmentally friendlier. Moreover, the Fund aims to help the sector reduce its carbon footprint and achieve national and global targets.

Film Cymru Wales and Cywster have made £75,00 in funding available for a range of sectors – including media, academia and waste management, for instance. By bringing expertise from different sectors, the industry will have a broader understanding of how to tackle environmental challenges. Funding is available for up to three projects – up to £25,000 each for research and development projects. Organisations taking part must deliver the projects over a six-month period from 1 November 2021 to 1 May 2022.
