We are delighted to announce that our Charity of the Year for 2023 is Velindre Cancer Centre.

Throughout the coming twelve months, we will be holding a variety of fundraising events and initiatives, all with the end goal of trying to raise as much money and raise as much awareness as possible for the Velindre Cancer Centre.

About Velindre Cancer Centre

Velindre is recognised as The Hospital Of Hope, and this is made possible because of the fantastic and committed support of their donors and fundraisers.

Your fundraising efforts and donations help them continue to be the leading provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales.

It allows the charity to fund projects which improve the experience and outcomes of patients receiving care and support here.

With your support, Velindre is able to offer a better quality of care through complex treatment pathways, earlier access to cutting-edge treatments, research into new treatments, purchase specialist equipment, fund invaluable support services and resources along with ensuring our staff have access to the most up to date training and techniques available.

Working together to provide treatment and care to more patients

Velindre, like many other charities, relies on support and donations to be able to provide a better quality of care and acquire the relevant equipment. Here at Bevan Buckland LLP, we are excited at the prospect of working with Velindre to play our part in helping them to achieve these objectives.

Kylie McKee, the Deputy Head of Fundraising at Velindre Cancer Centre, has echoed these thoughts as she explains below how donations can help them:

“We are delighted that the staff at Bevan Buckland have chosen Velindre as their charity to support this year and are looking forward to working with them to help raise funds and have fun. Money raised for Velindre allows us to fund projects over and above those provided by the NHS, which improve the experience and outcomes of patients receiving treatment and care here and provide vital support services to patients and their families”.

A personal story from our Managing Partner

Following being diagnosed with breast cancer last year, Alison Vickers, our Managing Partner here at Bevan Buckland LLP, has experienced first-hand the excellent work that is carried out by the Velindre Cancer Centre, which she shares below:

“Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in August 2022 and received chemotherapy at Velindre Hospital. Velindre has been fantastic in providing me with the treatment and support I needed. The nurses treat everyone with kindness, compassion, and dignity. Nothing was too much trouble. My oncologist was extremely knowledgeable and always there to answer my queries and reassure me about the challenges I faced.

I suffered many of the side effects of chemotherapy and contacted Velindre’s  24-hour helpline on a number of occasions. Having the ability to speak to the Velindre team at any time proved a great comfort.

There were two things that surprised me throughout my treatment. Firstly, the number of people whom Velindre treat on a daily basis, and the support they give is relentless.  Secondly how bright and airy the wards were, much more uplifting than I thought they would be.

Thank you Velindre and the team for the expertise and care you showed me”.

Raising funds for Velindre Cancer Centre

We will be hosting a number of events and initiatives in 2023 to raise money for Velindre, including curry nights, quizzes, raffles and much more.

In addition to larger scale campaigns, a number of our staff will be raising funds in other ways. This includes Andrew Knott, who will be taking on the extraordinary challenge of completing a 200-mile run on April 5th.

If you would like to sponsor Andrew or donate to Velindre in relation to one of our other initiates, then please do so by clicking here
